Back in the 1970s, Tim Curry was primarily a stage actor, until one of the musicals he starred in, The Rocky Horror Show, was turned into a film. Curry led the absurdity as Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a self-described "sweet transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania."

"I started playing [Frank-N-Furter] as a German, then I saw the costume.

It was quite diva," Curry told EW in 2015, recalling how he first brought his iconic character to life on stage. "I heard a woman on the bus one day saying, in this posh voice, "Are you looking at a new house when retiring or your place in the country?" and I thought, 'That's it!

Almost like the Queen.' Well, it was a smash from the moment it opened."

Curry's performance in The Rocky Horror Picture Show led the star to years of notable film roles in monosyllabic classics like Legend (1985), Clue (1985), and It (1990).

He also continued acting on the stage, earning himself three Tony nominations
